SASO recently announced an expansion of the products that will require the National Recognition Certificate for Electrotechnical Devices and Components (IECEE) as a prerequisite for entry to the Saudi market beginning July 1, 2021. The deadline for these products has been extended to September 1, 2021. The list of products that will require IECEE Certificates required as of September 1, 2021 includes:

  • Electric pumps with a capacity of 5HP or less

  • Electric power cables

  • Coffee preparation devices

  • Electric oil fryers

  • Water boilers (electrical water kettles)

  • Video games and accessories

On July 1, 2021, SASO announced that enforcement of the SASO IEC 62368-1:2020 Standard will now be January 1, 2023 instead of the previously announced July 1, 2021. Test reports executed to SASO IEC 62368-1:2017 will continue to be accepted until December 30, 2022. SASO IEC 60950-1 and 60065 have been withdrawn.

On June 25, 2021, SASO published a list of new, adopted and updated standards in the Um El Qura newspaper.

On June 25, 2021, SASO released the updated SASO 2663:2021 standard titled Energy Labelling and Minimum Energy Performance Requirements for Air-Conditioners. This standard replaces the 2018 version and introduces the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER).

On July 6, 2021 SASO announced that all products manufactured or semi-manufactured in GCC countries (Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and United Arab Emirates) must present a GCC National Origin Certificate during the Shipment Certificate stage in order to clear Saudi Arabia Customs. This requirement is effective immediately and SASO-approved Certification Bodies have been instructed to collect this document as part of the Shipment Certification process.
