The Swiss SR916.51 ALO Law (Agricultural Labelling Ordinance) Regulation for Agricultural Product Labelling mandates that products sold in its country respect the environment and are free from prohibited substances – hormones and antibiotics – for agricultural production.
The official Swiss agriculture body understands that Brazilian legislation does not meet all the necessary aspects for this commercialization, and it's necessary for a certification entity to oversee the production processes of companies interested in entering the Swiss market.
Switzerland grants preferences for many agricultural products produced in Brazil, including meats.
What does the ALO program represent?
Companies interested in offering their products to the Swiss market must prove compliance with Swiss legislation, and products must have traceability throughout the production process, from production to shipment to Switzerland, and declarations that the production complies with Swiss legislation, i.e., produced without antibiotics or antimicrobials as growth promoters. Additionally, for commercial eggs, animals must comply with Swiss animal welfare standards.
Due to the complexity of Swiss origin rules, the product must generally be obtained or fully produced in the country of origin, or else have undergone substantial transformation in that country.
QIMA's ALO Program performs product loading inspections, issues product compliance statements for export to this market, conducts annual audits at all stages of the production process, and verifies analyses of non-permitted substance residues in feed for broiler chickens for the issuance of production compliance to the Swiss government, as determined by Swiss Law.
This program applies to both plant and animal products, with animal products including:
Products:
Horse, beef, lamb, pork, and chicken meat, with chicken only for broiler strains and pork only for commercial use;
Eggs from commercial laying hens (Gallus domesticus).
2) Processed Products:
Meat-based products that can be pre-processed, processed, or ready for consumption;
Cured raw or cooked products;
Cooked products ready for consumption;
Ground meat;
Egg-based products that may contain fried, boiled, or preserved eggs.
